For those who like their entertainment to be intense family drama, Life Unexpected airs its 2-hour second season finale tomorrow, Tuesday, January 18, 2011, on The CW at 8pm ET/PT. Showrunner Liz Tigelaar graciously granted me a one-on-one phone interview to discuss the upcoming episode and the series as a whole.

Life Unexpected is a family drama about a teenager, Lux Cassidy (Brittany Robertson), who has had enough of being kicked around the foster care system and tries to get herself emancipated. Instead of granting her wish, the Judge gives her temporarily into the joint custody of her biological mom, Cate Cassidy (Shiri Appleby), and her biological father, Nate “Baze” Bazile (Kristoffer Polaha) – two people who have never been a couple and who haven’t been together since the night Lux was conceived. Or as Tigelaar describes her show, it’s “about a mom who gave up her kid to nobody, and a kid who can never get past that, and a mom who can never forgive herself. And a dad who didn’t step up and do the right thing, and now wants to, but is slightly incapable of it.”

Episode 212 “Teacher Schooled” and episode 213 “Affair Remembered” have Baze thinking of buying a house with Emma (Emma Caulfield), not knowing her secret romantic past with his father. Also, Lux plans a romantic dinner to keep Eric (Shaun Sipos) from pulling away from her, only to be surprised by Baze and Cate popping in.
